West Roxbury Man Arrested After Assaults and Car Theft at Dedham Gas Station

Investigators say a Boston officer's prior ID, backed by scene evidence, linked one suspect to all three visits.

Overview

  • John Laurent, 35, who police arrested Sunday at his West Roxbury home, is charged with two counts of assault and battery, trespassing, and larceny of a motor vehicle.
  • Police say the first case unfolded around 9:09 a.m. Saturday at Sam's Express on Washington Street, where a customer escorted the man out after an employee was assaulted.
  • Officers returned about 5:37 p.m. for a second assault on a different employee, who declined medical help, after a Boston officer identified the suspect before Dedham police arrived.
  • Around 10:44 p.m., a customer reported his car stolen from the pumps, and officers later found the vehicle near 4975 Washington Street in West Roxbury.
  • Dedham police coordinated with Boston, State, and Transit Police, and investigators say the same person committed all three acts, with arraignment set for Monday in Dedham District Court.
