West Palm Beach Denies Eminent Domain in Downtown Waterfront Park Talks

The city says planning for a proposed $30 million waterfront park will be open to residents.

Overview

  • Mayor Keith James said the city is not using or pursuing eminent domain for the waterfront concept and described the outreach as early discussions.
  • Nick Coniglio, who co-runs E. R. Bradley's, said officials and developers pressed his family to sell or relocate and that eminent domain was raised then walked back.
  • Developer Related Ross said the $30 million plan is a philanthropic effort with no development rights for the company and that designs keep E. R. Bradley's in place.
  • The concept would convert parts of Flagler Drive from pavement to lawn that reaches the water and reroute car traffic through the downtown grid.
  • Residents questioned targeting a landmark business for new green space, urged the city to consider other sites, and called for full public input before any decision.
