West Midlands Rail Strikes to Severely Cut Services Friday and Saturday

The walkouts stem from a dispute over rest‑day pay parity following failed ACAS talks.

Overview

  • West Midlands Railway, which expects TSSA action on Friday and Saturday, will run a very limited timetable and asks people to travel only if necessary.
  • Only three routes will operate, with the Cross City Line running two trains an hour and the WolverhamptonWalsall and Rugeley Trent ValleyBirmingham International routes running one an hour.
  • No trains will run on other WMR lines, including all Snow Hill services, the Camp Hill route, the Shrewsbury and Hereford lines, and the NuneatonLeamington Spa link through Coventry.
  • Services will end by 7pm on Friday and start later on Saturday at around 7am, and passengers should expect cancellations, delays and shorter trains with minor disruption possible on Sunday morning.
  • The strikes are phased, with roster clerks out from midnight Thursday for 24 hours and duty train crew managers and control staff striking from noon Friday to midday Saturday after the union balloted just over 100 members.
