- The West Bengal transport department issued a formal notification on May 21 that the scheme will take effect statewide from June 1, 2026.
- Each eligible woman will receive one QR-coded smart card with her photo and name after applying through the local BDO or SDO office.
- The notification lists acceptable identity documents for card issuance, including Aadhaar, voter ID, driving licence, PAN, passport, pension photo IDs, government service IDs and school or college IDs.
- Until smart cards are issued, women may travel free by showing a valid photo ID to the conductor, who will record a 'zero value' ticket after verifying identity.
