West Bengal Lifts Government Job Age Limits as Telangana Sets One-Year 44-Year Cap

The changes broaden eligibility in active recruitments across both states.

Overview

  • In West Bengal, a Finance Department notification effective May 11 raises the upper age for Group A to 41, Group B to 44, and Groups C and D to 45, with a 45-year cap for non-PSC recruitments.
  • The order, issued by order of the Governor under Article 309 and signed by Additional Chief Secretary P. K. Mishra, keeps any higher existing caps and all SC, ST, OBC and PwD relaxations.
  • The first change on the ground comes in the College Service Commission’s assistant professor hiring, which now uses a 45-year limit and extends applications by one month.
  • Telangana’s new GO Ms No. 86 sets a 44-year ceiling for one year for most direct recruitments after the previous 46-year relaxation lapsed this February.
  • The Telangana order drew pushback from job seekers who say 45–46-year-olds are now shut out and who are pressing for faster vacancy notifications, while West Bengal’s shift is expected to enlarge current applicant pools.
