West Bengal Launches GoM-Led White Paper Probe Into TMC Era Finances

The government has ordered departments to hand over records so ministers can build a department-by-department account of alleged mismanagement that will form the state’s official record.

Overview

A five-member Group of Ministers, led by Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, has begun a record-driven exercise to compile a White Paper alleging diversion, misuse and wastage of public funds under the previous 15-year TMC administration.
The GoM has directed every state department to examine their files and submit financial records, audit observations and administrative documents for consolidation into a single report.
Ministers Dilip Ghosh, Tapas Roy, Arup Das and Deepak Barman attended the initial meeting and the panel set a methodology for collecting and checking departmental evidence before drafting findings.
A preliminary report will be sent to the chief minister’s office for review and the White Paper will be finalised and published only after officials consolidate and vet the department-wise submissions.
The exercise follows long-standing BJP accusations of large-scale corruption under the TMC and could lead to formal audits, administrative action or legal referrals if the consolidated records identify clear misuse of scheme funds.
