Overview
- The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the West Bengal government and the West Bengal Legislative Assembly signed a tripartite MoU on Thursday to implement the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA).
- The agreement was signed by Satya Prakash for the ministry, Soumendra Nath Das for the assembly and Sampa Dhar for the state government in a ceremony attended by Union ministers Kiren Rijiju, Arjun Ram Meghwal and L. Murugan and Speaker Rathindra Bose.
- NeVA is a device-neutral, member-focused workflow platform deployed on NIC’s MeghRaj cloud that includes a mobile app called mNeVA and is designed to move questions, bills, notices, bulletins and committee work into a secure, paperless digital repository.
- The ministry committed technical assistance, training and implementation support through its Central Project Monitoring Unit to help the Assembly transition to fully digital functioning and to give members access to legislative records on handheld devices.
- Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari framed the move as reversing the previous Trinamool Congress government’s reluctance to join central projects, and the inclusion of West Bengal expands a national push that already lists 21 legislatures as having completed full digital transitions under the One Nation–One Application vision.
