- National Geographic Documentary Films and Abramorama released the official trailer on Feb. 10 for Ghost Elephants, written, directed and narrated by Werner Herzog.
- Herzog follows Dr. Steve Boyes with Kerllen Costa and KhoiSan master trackers Xui, Xui Dawid and Kobus in a search the film frames as pursuing possible living descendants of the largest land mammal ever recorded.
- A one-night nationwide theatrical simulcast with a live Q&A featuring Herzog and Boyes is set for Feb. 26, with the public event filmed at AMC Lincoln Square in Manhattan.
- The documentary opens in select North American theaters on Feb. 27, airs on National Geographic on Mar. 7 at 9/8c, and streams Mar. 8 on Disney+ and Hulu.
- The film premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, where Herzog received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, and a companion book by Steve Boyes releases Mar. 3 with a foreword by Prince Harry.
