Overview
- WeRide and Uber announced plans on June 17, 2026 to launch commercial Robotaxi services in the Greater Zurich Region, with operations expected later in 2026 subject to approval from the Federal Roads Office.
- Rides are planned to be bookable through the Uber app and the service will scale progressively as authorities review safety and performance milestones before broader deployment.
- Local operator Rydera will manage day-to-day fleet operations and WeRide already holds a FEDRO driverless permit for Zurich’s Furttal region that supports testing on public roads.
- The service will use WeRide One and the WeRide GENESIS simulation platform under an asset-light model that leans on partner investment and local operators to run vehicles at scale.
- The Zurich plan builds on WeRide–Uber deployments in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Riyadh and, if regulators and riders accept the service, could accelerate wider European rollouts and change how commuters summon rides.
