Weekend and Overnight Closures Start on Highway 62 and I-494 to Clear Way for Bridge Work

The short shutdowns enable removal of the Rosland Park pedestrian bridge and a 12th Avenue deck pour that are steps in a phased I-494 corridor upgrade through 2030.

Overview

  • Minnesota Highway 62 will be closed both directions from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday to remove the existing Rosland Park pedestrian bridge and traffic will be detoured onto Highway 100, I-494 and I-35W with a detour map at BetterTogetherEdina.org.
  • Westbound and eastbound overnight closures on I-494 begin the night of June 29 so crews can pour the 12th Avenue bridge deck, with signed detours using Highway 77, Highway 62 and I-35W and one-lane westbound reductions and a closed ramp to Lyndale Avenue during work.
  • MnDOT is leading the I-494 work that aims to add E‑ZPass lanes between Highway 169 and Highway 77 by 2030 and to finish new ramps at the I-35W/I-494 interchange in 2026 while the City of Edina is replacing the Rosland Park pedestrian bridge with higher clearance and ramps for accessibility.
  • Agencies say all dates and lane impacts are weather dependent and urge drivers to slow down in work zones while public information, official detour maps and project updates are posted online.
  • Commuters should expect night and weekend detours that may add time and restrict local ramp access in the short term and should plan routes now for morning commutes while officials say the projects will cut congestion, improve merging safety and expand pedestrian access when complete.
