Wedding Usher Jailed for Biting Off Guest’s Finger at Oxford Reception

Newly released police bodycam video captures the chaotic aftermath outside The Perch as guests shout that a finger has been bitten off.

Overview

  • Daniel Peasnell, 33, was sentenced to five years in prison at Oxford Crown Court on December 18 for grievous bodily harm with intent, affray and using threatening words or behaviour.
  • Jurors had found Peasnell guilty in November over the May 20, 2023 brawl at The Perch in Binsey near Oxford during the wedding of his best friend, Peter Green.
  • Police body-worn footage shows officers arriving to restrain Peasnell as bystanders exclaim that part of Stephen Dixon’s finger had been bitten off.
  • Prosecutors said Peasnell used his teeth as a weapon, with the bite fracturing bone and leading to surgery the next day and partial amputation, impacts Mr Dixon said affected his work and drumming.
  • The judge highlighted Peasnell’s heavy intoxication, earlier ejection from the event and a later threat to bite a police officer’s nose, while the jury rejected his claim that he bit while trying to survive.
