Weather Maps Point to 22C in Six Southern Counties on May 22

The Met Office signals a late May shift toward drier, more settled conditions.

Overview

  • WXCharts maps, which were published Saturday, highlight a localized warm spell peaking near 22C in parts of southern England.
  • Readings near 22C are most likely in sheltered inland spots in eastern Kent, around the Thames Estuary, and in parts of Essex and Suffolk near the Norfolk–Suffolk border.
  • Outside these hotspots, southern England and south Wales are projected to sit in the high teens, the Midlands in the late teens, northern areas around 13 to 17C, and parts of Northern Ireland near 18C.
  • The Met Office long‑range outlook for May 14 to 23 calls for changeable weather with rain and showers before higher pressure later brings a greater chance of drier spells in the southwest.
  • For late May into early June, the Met Office expects temperatures to recover toward average with occasional warm days, and it notes that the WXCharts model scenario could shift as forecasts update.
