WBD, Tony Khan Deny Report They Pulled Brody King From AEW Dynamite

Despite his Feb. 11 absence, King remains booked to face MJF on Saturday in Sydney.

Overview

  • WBD issued an on-the-record statement saying it had no involvement in Brody King’s AEW schedule and called any speculation to the contrary categorically false, adding he is slated to appear on the next event airing Saturday on TNT and HBO Max.
  • AEW president Tony Khan confirmed to Fightful that WBD did not keep King off Dynamite and noted King was featured in a video package on the Feb. 11 broadcast.
  • King and MJF did not appear in-person on Feb. 11 as AEW promoted their rematch via a pre-produced segment, with Fightful reporting talent travel to Australia was already underway that week.
  • Earlier reports from Dave Meltzer claimed King was held off to avoid a repeat of loud “F*** ICE” chants and attributed the decision to forces above AEW, tying it to WBD’s pending Netflix deal, but those claims have been publicly denied by WBD and contradicted by Khan.
  • The chants followed King’s well-documented opposition to ICE and came during his prior match with MJF, while MJF has said AEW does not censor its fans’ chants.
