Watkins Glen Weekend Sees Team Sale, Weather Hits and Support-Race Shakeups

YRB Racing’s acquisition of the former Van der Steur entry has been treated as a new IMSA entry which changed the car’s status ahead of final qualifying.

Overview

  • IMSA’s published entry list shows 54 teams for the Sahlen’s Six Hours with YRB Racing replacing Van der Steur Racing and Valentin Haase‑Clot retained while Trenton Estep and Marius Fossard join the lineup.
  • IMSA confirmed it is treating the YRB Racing entry as a new team which altered the car number and formal entry status for championship and procedural purposes.
  • Mixed wet conditions and multiple incidents disrupted practice and qualifying sessions, causing lost laps, red flags and a Mustang Challenge qualifying session to be abandoned and the grid to be set by points.
  • Support races and sessions produced momentum shifts with Cole Loftsgard winning the Mustang Challenge opener, TR3’s Elias De La Torre and Daniel Morad taking the Lamborghini Super Trofeo race, Janne Stiak winning the Porsche Carrera Cup race, and Hannah Grisham earning her first Pilot Challenge pole.
  • GTP pace was led in early practice by Jack Aitken for Action Express Racing and final practice plus GTP qualifying remain scheduled before the marquee six‑hour race on Sunday which will use reworked grids and recent results to shape race strategy.
