Overview
- An 8-inch cast-iron water main ruptured on Saturday afternoon near Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Woodbridge Street, sending water gushing into the street and flooding the block across from the LADWP building.
- LADWP crews and on-scene responders began repairs immediately, and the utility said full service is expected to be restored by 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
- Between 40 and 60 customers lost water service because of the break and city crews closed the southbound lanes of Coldwater Canyon Avenue as they worked to fix the pipe.
- Local police asked residents to move vehicles for safety and aerial footage showed an LADWP worker wading through knee-deep water as the street streamed from a crack in the pavement.
- Officials have not determined the cause of the rupture and the department is investigating, with reporters noting a small discrepancy in the initial reported time of the break.
