Washington Woman Charged After Video Shows Car Chasing Child on Sidewalk

A judge later released her on recognizance pending further proceedings.

Overview

  • Wendy A. Clemente, 56, allegedly drove a silver Ford Focus onto a Cheney, Washington, sidewalk on April 28 and chased a juvenile on a dirt bike, according to the sheriff's office.
  • Witness cellphone video shows the car mounting the curb and following the child along the sidewalk, and authorities say the juvenile was not hurt.
  • Roughly 25 minutes later and about a mile away, deputies responded to a homeowner’s live security alert and found Clemente and the same car in the driveway.
  • Deputies reported signs of impairment, say she tried to kick a deputy during the arrest, obtained a warrant for a blood sample, and booked her on attempted first-degree assault, DUI, and first-degree criminal trespass.
  • At a court appearance on April 29, a commissioner released Clemente on her own recognizance, and the video and blood-test results are expected to figure prominently as the case moves ahead.
