Overview
- Synergy has commissioned the 500MW/2,400MWh Collie battery, now Australia’s largest operational BESS.
- The project uses CATL’s EnerC LFP technology with 640 battery containers and 160 inverter units for flexible operation.
- Western Australian officials link the battery to capturing wind and solar, supporting the phaseout of state-owned coal by 2030, and easing price pressures.
- Victoria approved two grid-scale batteries totaling 700MW via its Development Facilitation Program: Atmos Renewables’ 300MW/1,140MWh Heywood project and Akaysha Energy’s 400MW/1,600MWh Glenrowan system, both to connect to the NEM.
- With Collie plus Kwinana BESS 1 and 2, Synergy’s storage exceeds 3,500MWh on the SWIS, and construction of the Collie project generated about 500 jobs.
