Wardha Hits 47.1°C as Pre‑Monsoon Moisture Brings Short Relief to Parts of Maharashtra

The India Meteorological Department says interior heat in Vidarbha and Marathwada will likely persist even though westerly winds have cooled western and central districts and raised storm chances.

Overview

  • Vidarbha remained the hottest region with multiple stations above 46°C on Wednesday, led by Wardha at 47.1°C and Nagpur at 46.6°C. Pune and nearby western and central districts recorded a noticeable drop in daytime heat as moisture‑laden westerly winds moved in, with Shivajinagar at 36.3°C and Lohegaon at 38.4°C.
  • S.D. Sanap of the IMD said clouds, gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms with very light rain are possible through May 26 as pre‑monsoon activity increases moisture over the region.
  • IMD data showed no rainfall at major stations across large parts of the state on Wednesday and the bureau forecasts mainly dry weather overall while warning that high daytime temperatures will likely continue in heat‑prone districts.
  • Coastal areas are humid and hill stations remain cool, and officials have urged heat precautions because the interior heat can strain health, crops and power demand even as brief storms bring localized relief.
