Walmart Partners With ABB to Launch 400 kW EV Fast Chargers at Phoenix Stores

The rollout uses Walmart’s store network to fold high‑speed charging into routine shopping.

Overview

  • Walmart and ABB have begun installing A400 DC fast chargers at seven East Valley stores in Mesa, Tempe, Apache Junction, and Queen Creek, with nine Phoenix‑area sites and about 38 stalls slated to come online in the months ahead.
  • Local officials also flagged two more stations coming soon at Hunt Highway and Gary Road in San Tan Valley and at 35th Avenue and Southern Avenue in Phoenix.
  • Each ABB A400 can deliver up to 400 kW to one car or charge two vehicles at up to 200 kW each.
  • The chargers support both CCS and NACS connectors, and drivers will start and pay for sessions in the Walmart app on site.
  • ABB cites a 99% uptime target and is supplying ReliaGear switchboards to enable future add‑ons like battery storage, with this first Phoenix phase part of a broader rollout already extending to Colorado, Florida, and Georgia.
