Wales Appoint Paul James as Scrum Coach After Duncan Jones’ Training Injury

The former Wales prop joins from Ospreys following Jones’s knee surgery after a training collision.

Overview

  • James will oversee the scrum for the rest of the Six Nations and has joined the camp before Sunday’s match against France at the Principality Stadium.
  • Jones withdrew after injuring both knees in a freak collision during live training last week and has since undergone surgery.
  • Head coach Steve Tandy thanked Ospreys for releasing James at short notice and said Jones will be missed as he recovers.
  • James earned 66 caps for Wales, has coached with Ospreys since 2018, and led scrum and set-piece work for Wales U20s in 2021.
  • Jones said he is absolutely gutted to miss the Championship but will support the squad from the sidelines following the opening defeat to England.
