WADA Chief ‘Uncomfortable’ With Tutberidze at Milan Olympics

WADA says it found no evidence linking the coach to Kamila Valieva’s doping, leaving no legal basis to bar her.

Overview

  • Eteri Tutberidze is accredited with Georgia and is coaching European champion Nika Egadze at the Games.
  • WADA president Witold Banka said the investigation produced no evidence of her involvement in Valieva’s case and noted the agency does not control Olympic accreditations.
  • She is also working with Russian skater Adeliia Petrosian, who is competing as an Individual Neutral Athlete and is viewed as a medal contender.
  • Kamila Valieva, then 15, tested positive for trimetazidine before Beijing 2022, was later disqualified from the team event, and placed fourth in the individual event.
  • Valieva’s four-year ban expired in December and she returned to competition last month as the ISU’s new minimum age of 17 takes effect for these Olympics.
