WA Teacher Who Admitted Sexually Abusing Pupil Has Sentencing Pushed to July

The delay allows a psychiatric assessment to guide the penalty.

Overview

  • Perth District Court, in a brief hearing Friday, extended Naomi Tekea Craig’s bail and adjourned the case to July 3 to await a psychiatric report.
  • Craig, 33, has pleaded guilty to 15 child sexual abuse offences after abusing a student over 16 months in 2024 and 2025.
  • The charges include five counts of sexual penetration of a child under 13, five counts of sexual penetration of a child aged 13 to under 16, indecent dealing, persistent sexual conduct with a child, and possession of child exploitation material.
  • Police say a DNA test indicated the student fathered the baby Craig delivered on January 8, with contact starting when he was 12 and the boy 13 at the time of the birth.
  • Her bail conditions bar contact with the victim and any unsupervised contact with children except her own, and her teaching licence from Frederick Irwin Anglican School remains suspended under rules that carry severe penalties in WA, with some child sex offences punishable by up to 20 years.
