VW Pauses ID. Buzz and Multivan Output at Hanover for One-Week Adjustment

Volkswagen cites weaker demand, pledging fresh incentives to revive interest in its electric and light commercial vans.

Overview

  • Production of the ID. Buzz and Multivan is halted October 20–24 at VW’s Hanover, Germany, plant as the company cites changed market conditions.
  • Internal figures reported by Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung indicate Hanover will build about 21,000 fewer vehicles this year, after measures such as an extended summer shutdown and a return to a 35-hour work week.
  • VW once touted capacity of up to 130,000 ID. Buzz units annually, yet recent sales have been roughly 30,000–42,900 a year, underscoring underused capacity.
  • High pricing that starts around $61,500 in the U.S. and a driving range near 230 miles have weighed on demand versus cheaper, longer-range rivals.
  • VW says it will step up marketing and introduce new incentives, as the model also contends with competitive pressure and a U.S. recall and stop-sale over third-row seat safety.
