Overview
- Voltpost announced a partnership this week making InCharge Energy its preferred installer and service partner to expand lamppost and utility-pole Level 2 chargers in the U.S., with initial rollouts planned in New York, Connecticut and California.
- InCharge will supply certified field teams for site surveys, installations and ongoing maintenance and will run network operations through its InControl software to allow real-time monitoring and faster dispatch.
- Voltpost’s units retrofit existing streetlights and poles rather than building new stations, and the smaller Air model delivers up to 9.6 kilowatts per vehicle with up to two dispensers mounted about 10 feet high and retractable cables.
- Because the chargers use the existing pole electrical supply, charging speeds are deliberately modest and are best for multi-hour curbside or parking-lot stays, and drivers must locate and pay for sessions through the Voltpost smartphone app.
- The retrofit approach cuts construction costs and can widen charging access in dense neighborhoods, but city permitting, pole electrical capacity and grid connections will shape how quickly and widely the network can grow.
