Volkswagen Starts Taigun Facelift Production in India Ahead of April 9 Debut

Production in Pune signals Volkswagen's effort to close feature gaps against rivals.

Overview

  • The Taigun facelift, which entered production Tuesday at Volkswagen’s Pune (Chakan) plant, extends the brand’s “Make in India, for India and the world” plan after about 143,000 units built since 2021 with roughly 30% exported.
  • Company photos and spy shots confirm a sharper look with a full-width LED light bar, reprofiled headlamps, an illuminated VW badge, revised bumpers, updated tail-lamp graphics, and new alloy wheels on standard and GT trims.
  • Interior upgrades are widely reported but unconfirmed until April 9, including a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a larger touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, rear-seat massage, and improved air-conditioning tuned for Indian conditions.
  • Reports indicate no major engine changes, with the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrols carried over, while the 1.0-litre is expected to add an eight-speed automatic and the 1.5-litre to retain a seven-speed DSG.
  • The refresh is positioned to keep the Taigun competitive against feature-heavy midsize SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Renault Duster.
