Vitens Narrows Amersfoort Boil‑Water Advisory After Enterococci Detection

An update is due 8 January following an enterococci finding at the Hogeweg production site.

Overview

  • Vitens lifted the notice for Woudenberg (14 connections), De Glind and Terschuur after sectioning showed they are served by another production site.
  • The precaution remains in parts of Amersfoort, Achterveld, Bunschoten-Spakenburg, Hoogland, Hooglanderveen, Leusden, Soest, Soesterberg, Stoutenburg and Stoutenburg-Noord.
  • Residents in affected postcodes should boil tap water for three minutes before drinking or using it for food or teeth brushing, while showering and handwashing remain allowed and bottled water is unnecessary.
  • About 85,000 households were initially covered, with customers notified by email and SMS and a postcode checker available to confirm whether an address is included.
  • Vitens is investigating the source at the Hogeweg site and cannot yet estimate the duration, with a customer update scheduled for 8 January following similar recent advisories in November and over Christmas.
