Virgin Media Outage Extends Into Friday Morning After Manchester Fibre Break

Virgin Media attributes the disruption to a broken fibre, with engineers working to restore service.

Overview

  • Customer reports of loss of service began around 9 p.m. on December 11, with more than 10,000 issues logged by 11 p.m. according to DownDetector.
  • Reports were concentrated in major UK cities including Manchester, London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow.
  • Many Greater Manchester households awoke without broadband on Friday, with local areas such as Newton Heath, Pendleton, Little Hulton, Broughton, Chadderton, Middleton and Walkden reporting problems.
