Overview
- At a Visma camp in La Nucia, Jonas Vingegaard confirmed he will start the May 8–31 Giro d’Italia for the first time with the explicit goal of winning the overall and wearing the pink jersey.
- Sport director Grischa Niermann said the Giro will boost Vingegaard’s level for the Tour de France in July, with the Tour still defined as the primary objective.
- A Giro triumph in Rome would complete his career set of all three Grand Tours after Tour wins in 2022 and 2023 and the 2025 Vuelta a España.
- His 2026 campaign is scheduled to open at the UAE Tour on February 16, with a pared-back program that also includes Volta a Catalunya in March.
- The approach follows Pogačar’s 2024 Giro–Tour double, and Vingegaard pointed to Red Bull’s Florian Lipowitz and newcomer Remco Evenepoel as significant Tour contenders.
