VinFast Unveils Second‑Generation VF 8 and Begins Local Assembly of VF MPV 7

The company is prioritizing smaller, more efficient battery packs, new software architecture and regional production to cut prices and speed market rollouts.

Overview

  • VinFast revealed the redesigned, second‑generation VF 8 on May 21–22 and said pre‑orders in Vietnam will open on 27 May with first deliveries expected in late July and a price of VND 999 million.
  • The new VF 8 uses a single front motor rated at 170 kW (228 hp) and a smaller 60.13 kWh battery that VinFast claims yields up to 500 km on the NEDC cycle and fast charging from 10 to 70% in under 30 minutes.
  • VinFast says the VF 8 adopts a Software‑Defined Vehicle electrical architecture with a Central Vehicle Computer and Frequency Selective Dampers, and it ships with a full ADAS suite developed to target a five‑star ASEAN NCAP rating.
  • At the same time VinFast has begun CKD assembly of the seven‑seat VF MPV 7 at its Subang, West Java plant, offering ownership or battery‑subscription pricing (battery‑included from IDR 420m or subscription from IDR 345m with fees from IDR 880,000/month) plus free V‑Green charging and early buyer cashback.
  • The moves underline VinFast’s push to lower front‑end costs and speed regional supply through the Subang facility, a 171‑hectare site with planned investment over US$1 billion and phased capacity up to 350,000 cars per year, but past reports of software and drivetrain issues on earlier models remain a noted caution for buyers.
