Vigo Launches Week of Traffic Changes as Avenida de Madrid Reconfiguration Goes Live

The city is rolling out tightly scheduled closures to accelerate street upgrades that add new mobility links.

Overview

  • Avenida de Madrid now permits through movements between Emilia Pardo Bazán and Estrada do Vilar with turns in all directions under signal control, which officials say will ease pressure on the main access roundabout.
  • Calle Lepanto will be fully closed on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 09:00 for concrete works, with AP-9 access advised via Pizarro, Travesía de Vigo and Numancia and a lane suppressed on Gran Vía between Brasil and Urzáiz during the operation.
  • Álvaro Cunqueiro loses one lane for roughly a week near number 36 due to the installation of mechanical ramps linked to the Pintor Colmeiro project by contractor Oreco Balgon SA.
  • Serafín Avendaño enters a months-long closure not expected to end before September for humanization and new ramp works, with pedestrian access maintained and a school drop-off area set near García Barbón 68.
  • Night maintenance will close the Beiramar, Vialia access, Isaac Peral, Martínez Garrido and Gregorio Espino tunnels on scheduled dates this week, with Ribadavia circulation reoriented to limit entry to residents and add new one-way routes.
