Overview
- A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 (VN-A867) rolled on runway 26L at Munich, rotated very late, produced a dust plume and travelled beyond the paved runway before becoming airborne.
- The aircraft sustained a tailstrike and visible lower-fuselage damage and later showed tyre and wheel shredding after an emergency return to Munich.
- The crew climbed to about 9,000–10,000 feet and circled for roughly 90 minutes to more than two hours to reduce fuel before making low approaches and landing safely back at Munich.
- Passengers and cabin crew were reported safe, but the jet became disabled on the north runway, prompting evacuations, closure of that runway and rerouting of airport traffic.
- Vietnam Airlines has classified the event as an accident and is coordinating inspections while investigators review possible technical or performance causes, including brake or takeoff-performance issues.
