Vietjet to Run Direct Ho Chi Minh–Western Sydney Services From January 2027

The route targets strong travel demand from Western Sydney’s large Vietnamese community and signals Vietjet’s broader push into the Australian market that still needs regulatory clearance.

Overview

  • Vietjet and Western Sydney International signed a memorandum of understanding on 10 August and put tickets on sale the same day for two weekly non-stop Ho Chi Minh City–WSI services starting January 2027.
  • The initial schedule is two round trips a week from January, increasing to three weekly services from March 2027, flown on Vietjet widebody aircraft.
  • WSI and Vietjet opened a limited early‑bird promotion offering a 20% discount for bookings in a short August window and said the route is supported by the NSW Take‑Off Fund and new road links to the airport.
  • Vietjet Thailand has proposed a four‑weekly Bangkok–WSI service for November 2027 that remains conditional on regulatory approval, and Vietjet has separately applied to CASA for an Australian Air Operator’s Certificate as it explores domestic operations.
  • The new route adds a fifth Australian gateway for Vietjet, aims to serve more than 70,000 Vietnamese residents in western Sydney, and could reshape local travel patterns and competition if regulatory clearances and slot arrangements proceed.
