Overview
- Baltimore police say six young males attacked a 74-year-old man outside the Liberty Heights Avenue 7-Eleven in the Northern District on July 7 and treated the case as an attempted armed robbery.
- Released July 16, the surveillance video shows two suspects running up to the man with what appears to be a gray assault-style rifle while another displayed a sword before the group shoved, knocked down, punched and kicked the victim.
- The victim used a crate to try to defend himself, was driven away after the attack, and was later treated at a hospital for bruises and a hand injury described by police as minor.
- Police are actively seeking tips and asked anyone with information to contact Citywide Robbery detectives at 410-366-6311 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP as no arrests have been announced.
- Community members reacted with shock to the footage and officials note the case has intensified debate over juvenile violence in Baltimore even as city leaders point to year-to-date declines in homicides.
