Victim in Downtown Houston Chipotle Shooting Dies, Upgraded Charges Pending for 21-Year-Old Suspect

Prosecutors seek to hold the suspect without bond pending a charging decision.

Overview

  • The victim was identified in court records as 25-year-old Curtis Moore, the son of a Harris County Sheriff’s Office sergeant, and the department said it is supporting the family.
  • The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. Saturday outside the Chipotle at 909 Texas Avenue near Main Street, and Moore was struck as many as nine times, according to police.
  • Houston police detained 21-year-old Nicholas Youngblood a few blocks from the scene and initially charged him with aggravated assault, with upgraded charges now pending after Moore’s death.
  • Prosecutors asked that Youngblood be denied bond, and a judge was expected to consider the request at a scheduled court appearance on Tuesday.
  • Investigators say a verbal exchange preceded the gunfire, and video shared with reporters shows Moore arriving by bicycle before a man in pink pulls a handgun and fires.
