- Official calculations list an umbral magnitude of 0.930, meaning 93% of the Moon’s diameter will sit inside Earth’s darkest shadow at maximum, while popular tools report about 96% obscuration because they measure covered area rather than width.
- Because the Moon never fully enters totality, experts say a thin un‑eclipsed rim can remain many times brighter than the shadowed portion, so observers should expect a sharp dark arc or 'bitten' look rather than a guaranteed uniform copper‑red disk.
- The eclipse is safe to watch with the naked eye and will be visible across all of the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) and parts of the Americas, Europe, Africa and western Asia, with binoculars or a small telescope improving crater and shadow detail.
