Vernon Raid Recovers $4 Million in Stolen Cargo in LA County Probe

Detectives say thieves now exploit hacked shipping papers to pass as legitimate carriers.

Overview

  • Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators served a search warrant in Vernon, seized about $4 million in stolen goods, and arrested one man on suspicion of receiving stolen property.
  • Recovered items included ALP Drifter nicotine pouches, TVs, shoes, printers, speakers, data center cooling gear, and skin care products from brands shown in photos released by investigators.
  • Authorities have not confirmed whether the nicotine pouches match ALP Supply Co.’s March loss of more than 378,000 tins, a case that prompted the company to offer a $100,000 reward.
  • Sgt. David Pantoja said the arrested man is believed to be a lower-level participant and not the person who planned the theft operation.
  • Pantoja said many heists now start with email hacks that steal bills of lading, letting thieves present real-looking pickup papers, and he reported a 1,000% jump in cargo theft from quarter 1 to quarter 2 in the region.
