Overview
- K. C. Venugopal held two days of meetings in Kolkata with district presidents, senior state leaders and candidates to assess the party’s post-Assembly poll position and will submit a report to the Congress high command.
- The review produced clear directives to strengthen booth- and block-level committees, improve worker coordination and expand public outreach so the party is battle-ready for upcoming assembly by-elections and municipal polls.
- Senior functionaries including Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Deepa Dasmunshi, Amba Prasad and state PCC chief Subhankar Sarkar participated in the review and backed linking state work to national campaigns.
- Leaders reported a rise in enquiries from weakened TMC workers about switching to Congress and agreed to move toward formal screening guidelines to bar entrants with corruption or criminal allegations.
- The meetings also set tactical plans for issue-based agitation on subjects such as hawker evictions and the proposed Uniform Civil Code, and called for strong participation in the July 21 Shahid Minar event and the Chhatron Ki Goonj campaign ending August 9.
