Overview
- Ventura police say a juvenile fled an e-bike enforcement stop on June 10 and rode an e-motorcycle the wrong way through local streets onto State Route 126 at speeds up to 60 mph.
- The Ventura County district attorney filed an eight-count juvenile petition on July 7 that includes two felony counts for evading a peace officer and evading while driving the wrong way.
- Officers found the abandoned e-motorcycle in a nearby alley, the teen and his stepfather later returned, the juvenile was cited and released, and the vehicle was impounded.
- The juvenile is due for arraignment at the Juvenile Justice Center in Oxnard on July 20 and the case will proceed under juvenile court confidentiality rules.
- Officials opened the enforcement operation after more than 100 calls this year about minors riding unsafely and warn that high-powered e-motorcycles must have license, registration, insurance, and helmets which can expose parents to legal or financial liability.
