Venmo Begins Phased App Redesign With New Feed and Privacy Defaults

The overhaul aims to help people find features they missed to position Venmo as an everyday money app.

Overview

  • Venmo, which outlined the plan Monday, is starting a months-long rollout that begins with a revamped feed and is slated to reach all users by fall.
  • The new feed shows larger visuals and adds quick actions like Pay Again and Say Thanks, with tailored cash-back offers and product suggestions tied to past purchases.
  • New tabs will follow, including Send for top contacts and easier group splits, and Money for Teen Accounts and crypto, with a Rewards hub that pulls cash-back offers and Venmo’s Stash program into one place.
  • A new onboarding flow will set new users’ posts to friends-only by default, with clear controls to switch to public or private, addressing prior privacy concerns.
  • Finding friends is now easier since users can search by phone number, a change that rolled out earlier this year through a PayPal link and removes the need to know exact usernames.
