Overview
- La Biennale announced on Monday, June 22, 2026 that Maggie Gyllenhaal will serve as jury president with six additional members joining the international competition panel.
- The jurors are Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania, Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To, French director Xavier Giannoli, Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat, British composer-artist Daniel Blumberg and Yale film scholar Francesco Casetti.
- The Board of Directors of La Biennale selected the panel on the recommendation of artistic director Alberto Barbera.
- The competition jury will decide the Golden Lion and other main awards after the festival lineup is revealed on July 23 and during the festival running Sept. 2–12, 2026.
- The mix of past Venice prize winners, returning Lido filmmakers, an Oscar-winning composer and a leading film scholar underscores Venice’s focus on auteur cinema and could shape awards-season visibility for films chosen by this panel.
