Overview
- Firefighters responded just before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday to a vehicle fire under a carport on the 3000 block of Southwest 2nd Street that spread into the house before crews arrived.
- All occupants escaped safely and three adults and two children were displaced and referred to the American Red Cross for help finding temporary housing.
- Crews brought the blaze under control in roughly 30 minutes and rescued the family’s dog, two rabbits and a bearded dragon from the home.
- The house sustained extensive damage, was boarded up, and workers began initial roof repairs while investigators process the scene.
- A fire investigator is on site to determine the cause of the blaze and officials have not yet confirmed whether the Corvette itself or another factor started the fire.
