Vehicle Fire Under Carport Spreads to Fort Lauderdale Home, Displacing Five

Investigators are examining what ignited the car that spread flames into the occupied house and forced the family from their home.

  • Firefighters responded just before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday to a vehicle fire under a carport on the 3000 block of Southwest 2nd Street that spread into the house before crews arrived.
  • All occupants escaped safely and three adults and two children were displaced and referred to the American Red Cross for help finding temporary housing.
  • Crews brought the blaze under control in roughly 30 minutes and rescued the family’s dog, two rabbits and a bearded dragon from the home.
  • The house sustained extensive damage, was boarded up, and workers began initial roof repairs while investigators process the scene.
  • A fire investigator is on site to determine the cause of the blaze and officials have not yet confirmed whether the Corvette itself or another factor started the fire.
