VCU’s Nyk Lewis Ruled Out With Sprained Ankle Early Against No. 3 Illinois

Overview

Lewis rolled his right ankle when he landed on teammate Brandon Jennings’ foot within the first minute in Greenville, South Carolina.
He was unable to put weight on the ankle, was helped to the bench, and later went to the locker room for X-rays.
The team ruled him out just before halftime with a sprained ankle, and he later rejoined the bench with ice on the injury.
The freshman has averaged 8.9 points and 4.6 rebounds this season, earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year honors, and started every game he played.
He posted 16 points and seven rebounds in the first-round upset of North Carolina, and the VCU–Illinois winner advances to face No. 2 Houston.
