Víctor Contreras–SICIM Wins Vaca Muerta–San Matías Pipeline as Techint Loses Bid

The choices point to a shift toward lower-cost offers with flexible financing in Argentina’s LNG buildout.

Overview

  • San Matías Pipeline awarded the roughly 470 km line from Tratayén to the Golfo San Matías to the Víctor Contreras–SICIM joint venture, while OPS won the contract for the intermediate compressor plant.
  • The project owner linked to the Southern Energy consortium said the pipeline will be 36 inches in diameter, and the compressor will provide 46,000 horsepower at about kilometer 80.
  • TechintSACDE was not selected after a five-way tender that also drew bids from Pumpco, Bonatti–Contreras Hermanos, OPS and BTU.
  • Coverage says the winning offer stood out for the lowest price plus easier payment terms, including no advance payment and stronger performance guarantees.
  • The pipeline is part of Southern Energy’s LNG export plan that includes a SEFE supply deal and a phased floating liquefaction program targeting up to 6 million tonnes a year.
