Overview
- A Vanderhoof-area man was attacked on his farm Monday around 5 p.m. while walking two off-leash dogs, and he suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his leg.
- He escaped by sliding under a barbed-wire fence, and the grizzly broke off the encounter and ran away.
- Conservation officers and RCMP searched the area after the attack but did not locate the bear.
- After reviewing evidence and interviewing the victim, the BC Conservation Officer Service concluded the bear acted defensively and does not pose an ongoing risk to the public.
- Officers set trail cameras to watch for activity and asked residents to report sightings or conflicts to the province’s Report All Poachers and Polluters hotline at 1-877-952-7177.
