Vande Bharat Sleeper Set to Debut Jan 17 on HowrahGuwahati Route

Indian Railways has adopted premium per‑kilometre pricing with a 400‑km minimum and confirmed‑only digital booking that eliminates RAC and waitlists.

Overview

  • Fares are fixed at ₹2.4/km (3AC), ₹3.1/km (2AC) and ₹3.8/km (1AC) with a 400‑km minimum charge and GST applied separately, taking 3AC entry fares to ₹960.
  • The 16‑coach EMU will carry 823 passengers across 11 three‑tier AC, 4 two‑tier AC and 1 First AC coach, with all berths released at the start of the reservation window.
  • Only confirmed digital tickets will be issued, existing quotas for women, senior citizens and PwD remain, and lower berths are prioritised for men 60+ and women 45+.
  • Officials say the service, designed and tested up to 180 kmph, will run at about 130 kmph on this corridor and is expected to cut travel time by roughly three hours.
  • No VIP or emergency quota will apply and passes are restricted, while onboard upgrades include cushioned berths, automatic doors, improved suspension, Kavach, CCTV and an emergency talk‑back system.
