Vancouver Set for Warm, Wet Start to February as Rainfall Warning Hits Metro Area

An active Pacific front is driving heavy rain under a yellow warning, with freezing levels high enough to rule out snow.

Overview

  • Environment and Climate Change Canada projects a generally warmer and wetter-than-normal February for Vancouver.
  • A yellow rainfall warning covers the North Shore, Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam and Maple Ridge, with total amounts of 60–90 mm expected.
  • Forecasters say heavy rain redevelops today with about 20 mm additional precipitation before easing to showers this afternoon.
  • Early February will feature periods of rain and showers with daytime highs around 11–13°C and overnight lows near 5°C, followed by clearer conditions that may push highs to about 14°C.
  • Freezing levels at or above 1,000 metres mean no snowfall is expected in Metro Vancouver, and outlook signals suggest a possibly drier first half of the month with low confidence beyond mid-February.
