Overview
- Valve updated customers Wednesday saying it is fulfilling Steam Machine reservations daily and expects everyone currently in the reservation queue to receive an option-to-purchase email by December 31, 2026.
- Signups closed June 25 and were randomized into per-product, per-region reservation queues and separate waitlists so inventory is offered by region and model rather than by signup time.
- When a reservation holder gets an email they will have 72 hours to complete checkout before the offer moves to the next person in that queue.
- Valve began promoting waitlist entries only in regions or for SKUs where the reservation queue is exhausted and insisted waitlist members will not leapfrog existing reservations.
- The company published the Steam Machine external CAD files on GitHub under a Creative Commons-style license to enable custom shells, with engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais warning that user modifications may void the warranty.
