Valve Raises Steam Deck OLED Prices to $789 and $949

Soaring memory and storage costs, together with global logistics, forced Valve to raise retail prices and erode the Deck’s previous value advantage.

Overview

  • The OLED 512GB and 1TB models, which returned to Valve’s store on Wednesday, May 27, now list at $789 and $949 respectively, up from $549 and $649.
  • Valve said the hardware itself is unchanged and attributed the increases to rising memory and NAND storage prices plus wider logistical pressures.
  • The hikes amount to roughly 43–46% and place the Deck much closer to or above competing handhelds and some current consoles in price.
  • Valve has discontinued the original LCD base model and is still selling certified refurbished OLED and LCD units at lower but still elevated prices.
  • Analysts and outlets say the same component squeeze that raised Deck prices could push Valve’s forthcoming Steam Machine and Steam Frame to higher price points or cause further delays, and many buyers may turn to refurbished or used markets.
