Valrico Man Accused of Scattering Nails Dozens of Times Appears in Court After Arrest

Deputies say surveillance caught him placing roofing nails on Miller Road, prompting charges ranging from criminal mischief to throwing a deadly missile.

Overview

  • An anonymous tip and video surveillance helped deputies track a white 2022 Toyota Tundra, and on Jan. 13 they say they watched Felix Uresti place nails on Miller Road before arresting him.
  • A search of the truck turned up a large bucket of roofing nails that investigators say matched those used in earlier incidents in the same corridor.
  • Authorities have documented nearly 30 nail scatterings since Sept. 11, 2025 in the South Miller Road and Lithia Center Lane area, with 27 additional reports over five months.
  • Uresti faces six counts of criminal mischief, a charge of throwing a deadly missile at or into a vehicle, and a Florida litter-law violation.
  • At his first appearance, a judge set bond at about $1,300 with conditions including GPS monitoring, no driving, no contact with victims or locations, and a ban on possessing nails, screws, tacks or weapons; investigators ask anyone with damage in the Miller Road area to call 813-247-8200.
