Overview
- CAMe activated Phase 1 in the southeast of the Valley of Mexico after a 107.3 µg/m³ PM2.5 reading at the Santiago Acahualtepec station in Iztapalapa early on Jan. 1.
- The alert covered four Mexico City boroughs—Iztapalapa, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, Xochimilco—and 13 State of Mexico municipalities including Chalco, Tlalmanalco and Valle de Chalco Solidaridad.
- Measures included 40% cuts to particulate emissions at industrial sources and suspension of activities such as certain construction, concrete operations and artisanal kiln combustion.
- At 20:00 on Jan. 1, CAMe reported sustained improvement with most stations at acceptable or good PM2.5 levels and lifted the Phase 1 contingency; Hoy No Circula operates normally in Mexico City.
- State of Mexico authorities indicated some jurisdictions would keep Phase I restrictions or apply local Doble Hoy No Circula, as monitoring and public health advisories continue.
